When you think about the best phones you can buy today, among the many expectations you might have, the ones you think of likely have OLED displays. This type of panel allows displays to be more vibrant, more colorful, but also deliver true blacks and potentially save power. As innovation has been mostly focused on smartphones for a while it’s taken some time for the OLED displays to become prominent in laptops, and even today, even many of the best laptops out there don’t have one.

But that doesn’t mean they don’t exist, or that they’re subpar in any way. In fact, in 2022, they might be more common than ever. Today, you can find some great laptops with OLED displays, and not only do their screens look stunning, but they’re also fantastic laptops in other ways, too. If you’re looking for the vividness of an OLED display in your next laptop, we’ve rounded up the best options you can find right now. As uncommon as they might, a lot of segments are covered here, so you have quite a bit of choice.

Best overall: Lenovo Yoga 9i

Lenovo’s consumer laptops aren’t quite as popular as its business-oriented ThinkPads, but the Yoga 9i is so good that it definitely earns its spot on this list. It has all the performance you could want, a beautiful design, and not one, but two fantastic OLED panels to choose from, and it’s easily one of the best laptops for 2022.

For starters, it has stellar performance, thanks to the Intel Core i7 P-series processors it’s packing. The P series is new for Windows laptops, and it comes with a higher 28W TDP, meaning you get that much more performance. Right now, it’s only available with a Core i7-1260P with 12 cores and 16 threads, but there will also be models with the more powerful Core i7-1280P, which has 14 cores and 20 threads. In addition to that, you get up to 16GB of LODDR5 RAM clocked at 5200MHz and up to 1TB of SSD storage, more than enough for most day-to-day tasks. For graphics, you get the usual Intel Iris Xe integrated GPU.

One of the things the Lenovo Yoga 9i truly gets right is the media experience. The 14-inch display comes in a tall 16:10 aspect ratio, and while the base model is an IPS panel, you get two terrific OLED panels to choose from. First, there’s a 2.8K (2880 x 1800) which, to be fair, is already more than sharp enough for a display of this size. But to make it even better, this model has a 90Hz refresh rate, so everything from animations to scrolling is going to appear smoother and more fluid. If you value resolution more, though, you can grab the Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) OLED panel instead, which has a more traditional 60Hz refresh rate. Either way, this is a phenomenal display.

And to go along with that, the Lenovo Yoga 9i has a speaker soundbar of sorts built right into the hinge, meaning sound is always firing towards you for a more immersive experience. It’s one of the best laptops around for media consumption, hands down. Above the display, the webcam has also been upgraded to a 1080p camera with Windows Hello facial recognition, so video calls and meetings will look sharper than ever.

There’s still more good in this package, though. The latest Lenovo Yoga 9i has been significantly redesign, replacing the once flat and boring edges with a stunning curve that’s much more reflective, adding a bit of sparkle to the overall design. The rounded edges also make for a more comfortable grip if you want to carry the laptop in your hands. There’s a downside to this, which is the lack of a place to store the pen, so that’s something you have to be more careful with now. It’s also worth mentioning here the “edge-to-edge” keyboard that includes some additional function keys on the right side, including a fingerprint sensor, a button for dark mode, and more. At 15.25mm, this is also a very thin laptop, and at 3.09lbs, it’s about as heavy as you’d expect for a convertible of this size.

Rounding things out, we have the port setup, which is also about what you’d expect for a modern premium laptop. You get one USB Type-A port, three USB Type-C ports – two of which have Thunderbolt 4 support – and a headphone jack. Some may have liked to see an HDMI port, but that’s not an unusual sacrifice these days. At least you get a headphone jack and USB Type-A, so you might not need any adapters.

At the end of the day, the Lenovo Yoga 9i gets a ton right – it has a stunning design, an even better display, plenty of performance, and more. It’s one of the best laptops around, and with two great OLED display options, there’s no way we couldn’t include it on this list. If you want to learn more about it, be sure to check out our Lenovo Yoga 9i review.

Best clamshell laptop: Dell XPS 13 Plus (9320)

Dell’s XPS lineup has long been a staple of premium laptops, but this year, the company still managed to wow us with the new Dell XPS 13 Plus. It’s no wonder this device is at the top of the list – it’s potentially the most futuristic-looking laptop we’ve ever seen, and it’s backed up by top-notch performance and a fantastic display.

Starting with performance, the Dell XPS 13 Plus comes packing Intel’s new 12th-generation Core processors, but not only that, it’s using the new P-series models that have a higher 28W TDP. You can go as high as an Intel Core i7-1280P, which is a powerful CPU with 14 cores in total (6p + 8E) and 20 threads, capable of boosting up to 4.8GHz. For reference, previous XPS 13 models maxed out with four cores and eight threads. Beyond that, you can get it with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM clocked at 5200MHz and a 2TB PCIe 4 SSD, so you’re getting a ton of performance here. For graphics, you still get Intel Iris Xe, which is enough for day-to-day tasks and some very light gaming. The downside of all this is a hit to battery life due to the increased power consumption of the processor.

The display on the Dell XPS 13 Plus will feel familiar if you’ve used any previous XPS 13 model, and it hasn’t changed that much. It’s a 13.4-inch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and while most configurations are IPS, you can get it with a gorgeous 3.5K (3456 x 2160) OLED panel. This version of the laptop also covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, it supports DisplayHDR 500, and it’s a touchscreen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Basically, it’s everything you could want from a premium laptop display. To go along with that, you get quad stereo speakers with 8W of total output for sound.

Above that display is one of the downsides of the Dell XPS 13 Plus, which is its webcam. Dell is still using a 720p camera sensor, but to the company’s credit, it separated the regular webcam from the IR sensor used for Windows Hello, so image quality has improved over the previous generation. In addition to the facial recognition, the XPS 13 Plus also has a fingerprint sensor for Windows Hello.

The design is one of the things that makes the Dell XPS 13 Plus so unique and so appealing. Dell has done a few interesting things here, starting with the fact that there’s no touchpad, at least not a visible one. Instead, the trackpad seamlessly blends into the chassis and uses haptic motors to simulate the feeling of a click. Additionally, Dell is using a zero-lattice keyboard with no space between each key, making for an extra clean look. And, above the standard keys, the function row keys are touch-based, so you can always see whether you’re using the function keys or media controls.

This super-modern and compact design with powerful specs comes with one downside, and that’s ports. All you get with the Dell XPS 13 Plus are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and that’s it. There’s a USB Type-C to Type-A adapter in the box and you have the option to also add a Type-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter (yes, there’s not even a headphone jack), but that’s not the most convenient route. If you’re all in on wireless devices or Thunderbolt docks, though, that may not be a problem.

Even with its downsides, the Dell XPS 13 Plus is definitely one of the best laptops you can buy this year, especially if you want an OLED panel. It’s thin and light, it has a really cool futuristic look to it, and it’s very fast. If you’re interested, you can buy it below.

Best business laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10

Front view of Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon is one of the best and most iconic business laptops ever, but the Gen 10 model is the first time you can get it with an OLED display. That’s not the only big upgrade for 2022, though, and that’s on top of what already made previous models fantastic.

For starters, there’s the performance, and much like other companies, Lenovo has upgraded to Intel’s 12th-generation Core processors, specifically from the P-series. Yes, that means a higher 28W TDP and up to 14 cores and 20 threads, should you choose to max out this PC with an Intel Core i7-1280P. As with other laptops with these processors, that may have a negative impact on battery life, but this is still a great machine. Aside from that, you can get ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM clocked at 5200MHz, along with up to 2TB of PCIe 4 SSD storage.

The display is one of the big upgrades for 2022, specifically because Lenovo has added even more options to the fray. Of course, that includes the new 2.8K OLED panel, featuring an unusual 2880 x 1800 resolution and DisplayHDR 500 True Black certification. While this resolution was uncommon until recently, it’s kind of the sweet spot – this is going to be an extremely sharp display at this size, and it’s not wasting obscene amounts of resources driving as many pixels as a 4K panel would. On top of that, this display has a 16:10 aspect ratio, making it ideal for a business-oriented laptop.

Another big upgrade is right above that display – Lenovo has gone ahead and used a 1080p webcam in the majority of available models, even those without Windows Hello facial recognition. That means you can get much better quality from your video calls and meetings, and Lenovo lets you take that even further with the option for a MIPI camera with Computer Vision. This enables the laptop to detect when you’re approaching it to use it, so it can wake up and be ready to sign you in.

Design-wise, not a whole lot has changed. The iconic ThinkPad look is here and accounted for – black surfaces, red accents, a red TrackPoint on the keyboard, and duplicate mouse buttons above the touchpad. It’s also a very thin and light machine, so its classic look doesn’t mean it feels old.

The array of ports will also feel familiar to anyone who’s used a previous generation of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. You get two Thunderbolt 4/USB Type-C ports, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, and the option for a nano-SIM slot, should you choose to add cellular connectivity. On that note, you have the option for either 4G LTE or 5G network support, so you can choose what fits your needs the best.

All in all, this is easily one of the best business laptops of the year, and thanks to the OLED display, it earns a spot on this list, too. You can buy it below.

Best lightweight laptop with OLED display: Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro

White laptop on black desk

Samsung made quite the splash with the original iteration of the Galaxy Book Pro, and with its successor, it’s made it even better. More performance, a better webcam, a brighter display, and more – all in the same lightweight package as before. This is truly one of the best OLED laptops out there.

Performance-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro comes with 12th-generation Intel Core processors, up to a Core i7-1260P. That’s one of Intel’s new 28W processors, and it has a total of 12 cores (4P + 8E), 16 threads, and speeds up to 4.7GHz. Plus, it comes with integrated Iris Xe graphics. The 15.6-inch model will also be available with discrete Intel Arc graphics, though that’s not available yet.  You can also get it with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage (though only 16GB + 512GB configurations are available at writing time). That’s a powerful combination of specs that’s going to get you all the performance you could need for most types of productivity work.

One of the things that make the Galaxy Book 2 Pro great is that the AMOLED display isn’t an upgrade option or limited to a specific configuration – it’s the standard across the board. You’re always going to get an AMOLED display, and in this case, it’s a Full HD panel. Most premium laptops only give you OLED options in very high resolutions, which drives up the price. If you want an AMOLED display without paying an exorbitant amount of money, the Galaxy Book 2 Pro lets you do that. The predecessor was similar, but Samsung says this new panel is brighter, so you can count on even better visibility in bright conditions. The downside in all this is that you don’t have the option to go beyond Full HD if you want a sharper screen.

Another major selling point for the Galaxy Book 2 Pro is its design, which is incredibly portable. The 13.3-inch Galaxy Book 2 Pro measures a mere 11.2mm in thickness, which is incredibly thin, and it weighs just 1.92lbs, making it the lightest laptop on this list. Even if you take the 15.6-inch version, it’s just 11.68mm thin and weighs 2.31lbs (though it’ll be a little larger if you buy a model with Intel Arc graphics). It’s truly impressive how thin and light this laptop is, and if you want to carry it around all day, there’s no better option than this in terms of portability.

The port selection is also not as bad as the thinness may lead you to believe. You get one Thunderbolt 4 port, one regular USB Type-C port, USB Type-A, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. The 13.3-inch model doesn’t have HDMI, but the 15.6-inch version does give you that, too. On the topic of connectivity, it’s worth mentioning that Samsung laptops come with some features like Quick Share that may be useful if you already have a Samsung phone.

Samsung doesn’t make as many laptops as many of the most prominent companies, but devices like the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro prove that when the company makes one, it’s fantastic. This is one of the best laptops you can buy today, especially if you want an OLED display. There’s also the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360, which we’ve actually reviewed already. It’s a convertible version of the laptop that’s more versatile and only slightly bigger. The convertible model does lose some ports and the option for discrete graphics, though.

Best 15-inch laptop: Dell XPS 15

Front view of Dell XPS 15

Dell’s XPS lineup isn’t just the XPS 13 Plus, and while the XPS 15 didn’t get the same ultra-futuristic look as the smaller sibling, it’s still a phenomenal laptop. In fact, if you need a more powerful PC with an OLED display, the Dell XPS 15 is one of your best options, and it’s just one of the best Dell laptops out there.

Starting with performance, the Dell XPS 15 is available with Intel’s 12th-generation processors from the H series, with a 45W TDP. You can go as high as a Core i9-12900HK, which is an incredibly powerful CPU with 14 cores, 20 threads, and capable of boosting up to 5GHz. Backing up that powerful CPU is an optional (depending on your configuration) discrete GPU, eith er a GeForce RTX 3050 or an RTX 3050 Ti. These aren’t meant for high-end gaming, but they will allow you to run just about any modern game if you tweak some settings – plus they can help with creative work like video editing. Additionally, up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM clocked at 4800MHz and 2TB of SSD storage round things out to make for a laptop that can handle almost anything you can throw at it.

That’s really all that’s new with the 2022 edition of the Dell XPS 15, but the rest is just as great as it’s always been. The 15.6-inch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio gives you the option for a stunning 3.5 (3456 x 2160) OLED panel, which still looks phenomenal in this larger size. This is still a very high resolution, so you definitely won’t be counting individual pixels on this screen. The OLED panel also includes touch support and it covers 100% of DCI-P3, so the media experience is bound to be great. Plus, a quad-speaker setup with up to 10W of peak output delivers fantastic audio, too.

Unfortunately, Dell didn’t do much to upgrade the camera compared to last year’s model, and it’s odd that we’re still seeing such a premium laptop stick to a 720p webcam. It does have Windows Hello facial recognition, though, and if you prefer using your fingerprint, the laptop also has that option.

The design is also unchanged for 2022, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. The Dell XPS 15 is a surprisingly compact laptop considering its display size and the powerful specs inside. It also looks great in both colorways – one has a black carbon fiber interior and a darker silver shade exterior; the other has a white interior made from woven glass fiber composite matched with a lighter silver shade on the outside.

The compact design of the Dell XPS 15 has the downside of limiting the ports you get – there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one standard USB Type-C port, a full-size SD card reader, and a 3.5-mm headphone jack. Included in the box is an adapter that turns one of the USB Type-C ports into both a USB Type-A port and HDMI, so you’re not completely out of options, but it’s not the most convenient approach for a laptop of this size.

While we would have liked the 2022 model of the Dell XPS 15 to receive some more upgrades, this is still a phenomenal laptop that strikes a fantastic balance between looking modern and compact and still offering fantastic performance. Add the stunning OLED display, and this is easily one of the best laptops around.

Best OLED gaming laptop: MSI Raider GE67HX

MSI Raider GE67HX front view on a desk

If you’re looking for a laptop that can handle the latest AAA games and still give you the stunning visual experience of an OLED panel, the MSI Raider GE67HX is really hard to beat. This is simply one of the most powerful laptops in the world right now, and it has all the RGB flair you could want, plus a fast OLED display.

For starters, the MSI Raider GE67HX comes with Intel’s 12th-generation Core processors, but in this case, they’re from the new HX series, and they have a 55W default TDP. You can go up to an Intel Core i9-12900HX, which has a whopping 16 cores and 24 threads, with boost speeds up to 5GHz. That’s pretty much the most powerful CPU you’ll find on a laptop today, and that power is backed up by up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU and that GPU can use up to a massive 175W of power (with Dynamic Boost), which means you have all the performance you could ever want in a laptop. Any game you might want to run, you will be able to run, no problem. Beyond that, the laptop supports up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM at 4800MHz and it has two M.2 slots for PCIe SSD storage.

Of course, you’re here for the display, and the MSI Raider GE67HX has basically the best OLED panel for gaming. This is a 15.6-inch Quad HD panel (2560 x 1440), and it has a super-smooth 240Hz refresh rate. This is the perfect balance of sharp image quality and smooth frame rates, making this ideal for running titles with great visual fidelity without compromising reaction times in more competitive games. In addition to the high refresh rate, OLED panels have fantastic response times compared to IPS screens, as low as 0.2ms, so you’ll never miss a beat. Plus, the screen supports DisplayHDR True Black 600, so it just looks great.

For the webcam, MSI fortunately didn’t cut too many corners. It’s a 1080p webcam, which is in line with most premium laptops in 2022. You don’t get Windows Hello support, either via facial recognition or a fingerprint reader, but at least the camera is good enough if you want to make video calls or stream yourself playing a game, for example.

If you had any doubts that the MSI Raider GE67HX is a gaming laptop, the design makes that incredibly apparent. At 23.4mm, this is a thick laptop (though surprisingly not that bad for these insane specs) and it weighs 5.25lbs, too. But what makes it even more obvious is the giant RGB light strip at the front of the laptop, which is sure to get everyone’s attention if you bring this out in public. The keyboard is also RGB backlit, but that’s about it.

The Raider GE67HX also makes use of that large chassis to pack a ton of ports, including one Thunderbolt 4 connection, a regular USB Type-C port, three USB Type-A ports, 2.5Gb Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, a headphone jack, and an SD card reader. Frankly, you couldn’t ask for much more if you tried.

If you want the ultimate gaming experience, the MSI Raider GE67Hx is probably the best choice for you, and considering its specs, it’s actually not terribly expensive. It has the best OLED display for gaming, and it’s one of the most powerful laptops out there.

Best laptop for creators: Asus ROG Zephyrus Pro Duo 15 OLED

ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED product image

ASUS has been making dual-screen laptops for a while, but it’s still one of the most unique ideas around. The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED is not only powerful, but it packs one of the most interesting features you’ll find on any laptop – a second screen on the keyboard deck. The latest version also comes with Intel’s 12th-generation processors.

That’s the main thing that’s changed this year: Performance. The latest iteration of the Zenbook Pro Duo 15 OLED comes with Intel’s 12th-generation H-series processors, specifically a Core i9-12900H. That’s a 14-core CPU with 20 threads and boost speeds up to 5GHz, making it one of the fastest laptops around. Not only that, but there’s also an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, a fairly powerful GPU that will allow you to run all kinds of creative workloads on this machine. Rounding things out, you get 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of SSD storage,

The main display is a 15.6-inch OLED panel, and it comes in at 4K (3640 x 2160) resolution, so it’s already both vibrant and sharp. It’s also a Pantone Validated display, it covers 100% of DCI-P3, reaches brightness up to 550 nits with DisplayHDR 500 certification, and it supports touch. Some might have preferred a taller 16:10 aspect ratio, but it’s still a fantastic display for content consumption and creation, but it’s made even more special by what’s just below it.

The keyboard deck houses a second screen that’s just as wide as the main display (the resolution is 3840 x 1100), but this one is an IPS panel. The second screen lifts up when you open the laptop, so it’s at the right angle when you’re looking at the laptop normally. You can use the second screen for intuitive controls in some content creation apps like Premiere Pro or Photoshop, but you can also put other apps on it for whatever use cases you may have. For example, you could be watching a movie on the main screen and using the second screen to message someone. It’s a versatile setup you don’t see anywhere else.

Of course, having a big screen on the keyboard deck has some implications for the design. The keyboard is pushed off to the left, with a touchpad on the right side of the laptop for controlling the mouse. The touchpad can also be turned into a virtual number pad whenever you need it, and if you want, the second screen can also be used as an extra-large touchpad. It’s also worth noting that the camera here is 720p, but it does support Windows Hello facial recognition, which is great to see.

Having all of that does make this a slightly bulky laptop, but it could be worse. It measures 21.5mm in thickness and weighs 5.16lbs, so it’s not something you want to carry around all day, but you can take it to the office and back home if you need to work in different places. You do get a solid supply of ports, though, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB Type-A, HDMI 2.1, and a headphone jack, which covers all the basics you might need.

Also great: HP Spectre x360 16

If you’re looking for a more typical kind of laptop for creators, the HP Spectre x360 16 might just do the trick for you. This is a very powerful convertible laptop helped by a stunning (albeit optional) OLED display and a beautiful design.

Starting with performance, the HP Spectre x360 16 is powered by either an Intel Core i7-12700H – a 45W processor with 14 cores and 20 threads – or a Core i7-1260P, which has a 28W TDP, 12 cores, and 16 threads. The reason for these options is that the P-series processor is paired with a discrete GPU, the Intel Arc A370M, which gives you significantly better graphics performance for content creation. You can choose whether you want more CPU performance with the Core i7-12700H or more GPU performance by going with the Core i7-1260P along with the Arc 370M. You can also configure the laptop with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD storage, so you’re not missing out on much.

Moving on to the display, this is fantastic one. It’s a 16-inch panel with a tall 16:10 aspect ratio, as you’d probably expect with most creator-focused laptops. The base model isn’t OLED, but if you choose to go that route, it’s a very sharp Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) panel with 400 nits of brightness, and it looks fantastic. Of course, being a convertible also means it supports touch and pen input.

Another fantastic thing about the Spectre x360 16 is its webcam, which is using a high-resolution 5MP sensor. That’s something we don’t see a lot of in laptops, and while it only records Full HD video, it comes with smart features like auto framing, lighting correction, and more. It’s easily one of the best laptop cameras around. Of course, Windows Hello facial recognition is also here, though you can also use a fingerprint reader if you prefer that.

Design-wise, the Spectre x360 16 actually changes some things in the iconic Spectre design, replacing the angular edges with more of a curved look. However, the copper-colored accents are still here, though a bit more subdued, and the laptop feels as premium as ever. At 4.45lbs, it’s a bit heavy, but that’s to be expected for a convertible of this size.

And you get a solid supply of ports, too. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB Type-A, HDMI, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader make for a well-rounded setup that should be enough for most users.

All in all, this is one of the best laptops HP makes, and it doesn’t even have to be just for creators. It’s got power, a stunning design, a fantastic OLED display, and one of the best webcams around – it’s one of the best laptops for just about anyone.

Those are what we’d consider the best laptops with OLED displays that you can buy today. All of these are great choices, but we gave the best overall spot to the Lenovo Yoga 9i due to the overall fantastic media experience with the hinge soundbar, the stunning design, and great performance. Other laptops on this list excel at more specific things, and they might just be your favorite. Whether you’re a gamer, creative professional, or business user, there’s something for you to like here.
